Memory foam is now most widely associated with mattresses. Rightly so, and a memory foam mattress offers a high degree of comfort and support, far outstripping that offered by a traditional mattress. What you might not be aware of is that memory foams are used for a huge range of applications, and memory foam is not just for mattresses.
Support
Memory foam, or visco elastic foam, is used commonly for its supportive qualities. Just as a memory foam mattress offers a degree of support for a person’s body, other memory foam products, such as memory foam chairs or wrist supports, work on the same principle. With this in mind, memory foam is frequently used in the construction of ergonomic products, i.e. products that prevent conditions like RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) from developing.
Shock Absorption
Visco elastic is also used for its shock absorptive qualities. Memory foam (i.e. visco elastic foam) was originally used by NASA to protect astronauts from the extreme G forces associated from re-entry. In the modern day, several applications of memory foam benefit from this shock absorptive quality. For instance, it is commonly found in bike helmets, body armour and even horse riding saddles.
Foam products have helped to define the modern world. Literally, they support many of our daily activities, and continue to add value to our lives; whether it’s for protecting us or supporting us you can find foam manufacturers online.
