The NHS is a great institution and its long and prestigious history is a credit to the UK. However, it is by no means the only health provider in Britain. Private clinics are very popular, and whilst they offer the same level of care as the NHS, there are some differences.
One of the key differences between private and public health care is that with a private doctor it’s usually much easier to get an appointment. Often, you’ll be able to get a same day appointment, i.e. you’ll be able to make an appointment and see a doctor all in the one day.
Why is this beneficial?
There are lots of reasons why same day appointments can be beneficial. For example, perhaps you have work commitments. By law you’re able to take time off for medical care, however if you can only get an appointment at a certain time then this can be disruptive. With private care, there is much more flexibility as to when you can make appointments.
Frankly, you might want to get your medical care over and done with. If, for example you’re undertaking a HIV test, it’s understandable that you don’t want to suffer a lengthy waiting time. With a same day appointment you can be tested quickly and efficiently.
You might have an exotic holiday coming up. Depending on where you’re going, you’ll need travel injections. A private clinic can also be a travel clinic, offering a range of vaccinations against diseases such as yellow fever.
